On 25 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova Aureliu Ciocoi in Geneva. The meeting focused on the implementation of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union, Moldova's progress in implementing reforms, cooperation within the United Nations system, and the latest developments in bilateral relations.
L. Linkevičius stressed the need to implement important systemic reforms in Moldova, namely to ensure the independence of the judiciary and to improve the fight against corruption in the country.
“Moldova is the associated country of the Eastern Partnership. We believe that efforts to implement the Association Agreement and to ensure the rule of law will bring clear and visible results," said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, noting that the EU assistance to Moldova was based on conditionality.
The Lithuanian and Moldovan Foreign Ministers also discussed cooperation in multilateral formats, the Eastern Partnership initiative in the run-up to the June 2020 Summit, and bilateral relations between Lithuania and Moldova.
