Lithuania’s first Honorary Consulate in Iran opens in Tehran
On 12 December, the first Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Iran was opened in Tehran. The consulate is headed by Mohsen Karimi Tabbasi, President at Yasin Group of Companies. This is the first diplomatic representation of Lithuania in Iran since the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Persian Empire in 1930.
During the ceremony, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Turkey and Iran Audrius Bruzga noted that the opening of the consulate was a unique opportunity for Lithuania and Iran to take their economic and cultural cooperation to a new level and called on the Iranian business representatives, who were plentiful, to grab this opportunity.
The consulate can make a significant contribution to the development of Lithuanian businesses’ economic relations in the fast-developing Iranian market of 80 million consumers in the fields of energy, agriculture, telecommunications, etc.
The exhibition of photography by Marius Jovaiša ‘Unseen Lithuania’ was also opened in Tehran. The exhibition aims to raise awareness about Lithuania’s beautiful nature, historical cities and UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. A cycle of events presenting Lithuania’s culture in Iran kicks off with this exhibition that was organised on the occasion of the centenary of the restoration of an independent state of Lithuania.
