  • Are Lithuanian citizens allowed to return to Lithuania while the country is still under official quarantine?
    Lithuanian citizens are allowed to enter Lithuania, however, the possibilities to enter Lithuania under the quarantine are restricted.

    As of May 11, transportation of passengers and/or their private passenger cars to the Republic of Lithuania by passenger ships/ferries shall be prohibited, except for the ferries running on the routes between Kiel - Rostock - Travemünde and Klaipėda, where passengers are not picked up at intermediate ports and where the minimum contact with bystanders is ensured at the intermediate ports during the change of ferries. At the submission of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in exceptional cases, a decision regarding permission shall be taken by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.

    As of May 13 , granted by the Government of Lithuania, Lufthansa airlines will relaunch regular flights between Frankfurt and Vilnius.

    As of May 18, granted by the Government of Lithuania, airBaltic airlines will relaunch regular flights between Riga and Vilnius.

    As of May 25, granted by the Government of Lithuania, airBaltic airlines will relaunch regular flights between Tallinn and Vilnius.

    The Government has no plans to organize anymore special flights. In individual cases, bearing in mind the humanitarian situation in geographically remote countries of the world, Lithuanian citizens may be repatriated from foreign countries, if the EU member states were to jointly arrange the repatriation of their citizens.


  • Are citizens still registered at Lithuanian representations?
    If you are abroad and need urgent consular assistance, contact your nearest embassy by e-mail. You can find e-mail addresses at http://keliauk.urm.lt/lt/embasycontacts.

    Note: Many countries have imposed restrictions, therefore, the extent and scope of consular services at embassies have changed. Please contact your nearest embassy for further information.


  • Is it urgently necessary to return to Lithuania or can I safely wait abroad till the end of my holidays?
    Currently, the possibility of returning to Lithuania has been reduced. In exceptional cases, upon obtaining a permit from the Head of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania or a person authorized by him, citizens and/or their passenger cars may enter the Republic of Lithuania also through other international border crossing points as specified in this subsection. Lithuanian citizens stranded abroad are now advised to remain where they are until the end of the quarantine, as well as to follow the information and instructions given by local authorities.


  • What should I do if my current visa or visa waiver expires, when I decide to stay in a foreign country or fail to return due to canceled flights?
    If you need to renew, extend or change a visa, please contact the migration service of the host country and your nearest embassy.


  • Will I be required to self-isolate upon return to Lithuania?
    All travellers who return to Lithuania from abroad must self-isolate for 14 days, exept for:

    - citizens of the Republic of Poland returning or arriving for the purpose of work, business or studies, and the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania returning or arriving from the Republic of Poland, where they went for the purpose of work, business or studies;
    - crew members, who are employed in Lithuanian companies engaged in international commercial transportation, or who carry out international commercial transportation by all the means of transport;
    - health professionals arriving for the provision of transplant services;
    - members of official delegations, diplomats and special couriers working on transit trains;
    - citizens of foreign countries transiting through the Republic of Lithuania with compulsory escort (convoy) to the country of their residence, who have no COVID-19 (coronavirus infection) symptoms;
    - journalist and media representatives, arriving to Lithuania under authorisation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs
    - citizens, ariving in order to organise or participate in a funeral of close relatives;
    - As of May 15, citizens of the Republic of Latvia and Republic of Estonia or citizens of the Republic of Lithuania, and persons, legally residing in these countries, returning or arriving from the Republic of Estonia or Republic of Latvia after travelling only within the territory of Republic of Estonia, Republic of Latvia or Republic of Lithuania.

    The crew members, who are employed in Lithuanian companies engaged in international commercial transportation, or who carry out international commercial transportation by all the means of transport, shall fall subject to isolation from the day of arrival in the Republic of Lithuania until the day of departure from its territory, but no longer than 14 days. The National Public Health Centre under the Ministry of Health shall organise screening of all persons who have returned or arrived from abroad for the symptoms of COVID-19 (coronavirus infection) at the international border crossing points

  • Can I self-isolate at home?
    Yes, if your home meets the requirements for self-isolation. For further information, please read here.

    If the premises do not meet the requirements, or if a person refuses to sign a consent form for self-isolation, also when a person expresses a wish, they will be isolated in isolation premises provided by the municipal administration of their place of residence. Such persons are provided with transportation to the premises. A person will be isolated in isolation premises provided by the municipal administration (according to the point of entry into Lithuania), if the person has not declared a place of residence in Lithuania. Such persons are provided with transportation to isolation premises.


  • Who can enter Lithuania during the quarantine?
    Lithuanian citizens are admitted to Lithuania, but the possibility of return is very limited:

    • It is prohibited to carry passengers and/or passenger cars to Lithuania by passenger ships/ferries with an exception of the Klaipėda-Kiel ferry route. In accordance with the proposal submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in exceptional cases, the decision on a permit shall be made by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
    Flights carrying passengers to and from international airports of the Republic of Lithuania are conducted only upon obtaining a separate flight permit from the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration in accordance with the decision of the Minister of Transport and Communications and taking into account the proposal submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

    All foreign nationals are prohibited from entering Lithuania during the quarantine, except for:

    - those foreigners who are family members of the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania (parents/adoptive parents, children/adopted children, spouses, guardians);
    - crews and crew members working for Lithuanian companies engaged in the business of international commercial transport or international commercial transport involving all modes of transport
    - persons legally residing in the Republic of Lithuania;
    - persons enjoying immunities and privileges provided for in the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations;
    - personnel serving in NATO and NATO countries’ military units, including their service personnel and families.
    - citizens of the Republic of Poland returning or arriving for the purpose of work, business or studies, and the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania returning or arriving from the Republic of Poland, where they went for the purpose of work, business or studies;
    - health professionals arriving for the provision of transplant services;
    - members of official delegations, diplomats and special couriers working on transit trains;
    - journalist and media representatives, arriving to Lithuania under authorisation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs
    - as of May 15, citizens of the Republic of Latvia and Republic of Estonia or citizens of the Republic of Lithuania, and persons, legally residing in these countries, returning or arriving from the Republic of Estonia or Republic of Latvia after travelling only within the territory of Republic of Estonia, Republic of Latvia or Republic of Lithuania.

    Overseas arrivals are required to isolate for 14 days.

    Crews and crew members working for Lithuanian companies engaged in the business of international commercial transport or international commercial transport involving all modes of transport, have to transit through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania without a necessary stop.

    Transit of persons returning to their country of residence through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania without a necessary stop, in formed groups of persons or vehicles with ensured compulsory escort (convoy) of these groups from the entry into the Republic of Lithuania to the international border crossing points will be allowed.


  • Can a foreign citizen entitled to reside in Lithuania travel to Lithuania during the quarantine?
    Yes. Pursuant to the Government decree No. 207 of 14 March 2020, foreign citizens entitled to reside in the Republic of Lithuania are allowed to enter the country during the quarantine.


  • Is it possible to leave Lithuania during the quarantine?
    Yes, Lithuanian citizens are allowed to leave the Republic of Lithuania.

  • I live abroad, but I wish to go to a funeral of a loved one in Lithuania. Can I stay in Lithuania for a few days and then fly back?
    Overseas arrivals are required to isolate for 14 days during the quarantine.

    Exceptions are being made for persons, who arrive in order to organise and/or participate in a funeral of a close relatives. A request for exception should be submitted to the National Public Health Center. More information can be found here.


  • I live and work in Lithuania. Can I go to a funeral of a loved one abroad?
    Only those Lithuanian citizens who work abroad or submit documents confirming their permanent residence abroad are allowed to leave the country. In exceptional cases, a permit may be obtained from the Head of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania or a person authorized by him. Please send your reasoned request via e-mail: [email protected] and submit all documents substantiating the request. The received and saved answer must be presented to officers at the border crossing point.


  • I am studying abroad. Can I stay there?
    Citizens do not have an obligation to return to Lithuania. If you have an opportunity to stay abroad during the quarantine, please note that it may be safer to stay wherever you are than to embark on a logistically complex international journey.


  • Is the border with Poland still open to private transport?
    The borders of the Republic of Poland remain closed until June 12 under the decision of the Government of Poland.


  • If I fly to Riga/Tallinn, will I be allowed to cross the Lithuanian border by car?
    You will only be able to arrive in Lithuania through the Kalvarija – Budzisko and Saločiai – Grenstalė border crossing points. In exceptional cases, a permit may be obtained from the Head of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania or a person authorized by him.   • If I fly to Riga/Tallinn, how can I return home from Latvia/Estonia?
    You can travel from Latvia by car (your own or rented), bus or taxi. You will be able to arrive in Lithuania only through the Saločiai-Grenstalė border crossing point. In exceptional cases, a permit may be obtained from the Head of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania or a person authorized by him.   • My spouse is not a Lithuanian citizen. Can he/she come to Lithuania?
    Yes. Those foreigners who are family members of the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania (parents/foster parents, children/adopted children, spouses, guardians) are allowed to enter Lithuania.


  • Will I be able to return to Lithuania in May?
    Lithuanian citizens are allowed to enter Lithuania, however, the possibilities to enter Lithuania under the quarantine are restricted.
