Belarusian democracy representation accredited at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania
Today, the Belarusian democracy representation was accredited at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. It was granted a status of another representation and will be headed by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who has been persecuted by Alexander Lukashenko’s regime.
“This decision illustrates Lithuania's continuing support for non-governmental organizations and civil society in Belarus. This step has been taken against the backdrop of the illegitimate Lukashenko regime's ongoing repression and violence against the people of Belarus, who are fighting for their rights and freedoms, and a democratic future of their country. We hope that this will help representatives of the democratic forces of Belarus to be heard in foreign countries," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis.
The representation has been accredited following an appeal by Tsikhanouskaya. A note in reply has been drawn up in accordance with the decision of Lithuania's Foreign Minister.
