Organization of proposed Conference on Future of Europe discussed in Brussels
On 28 January, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Albinas Zanavičius attended the General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, which discussed the proposed Conference on the Future of Europe.
Ministers exchanged views on the idea of such a conference, as well as its content, scope, composition, functioning, and citizen engagement for the conference that is due to start in 2020 and end in 2022.
“We all agree that we need to explore ways to ensure a better functioning European Union. Therefore, it is important that discussions at the conference should focus on the effective implementation of concrete EU policies. As regards the organization and management of the conference, it is essential to ensure equal participation of all EU institutions, member states and their national parliaments, while trying as much as possible to involve European citizens in the conference," said A. Zananavičius.
